| The Alps arrived in Berlin |
The project Alpine Freight Railway (AlpFRail) had concentrated on shifting freight traffic from road to rail and elaborated concrete solutions in the frame of the Interreg IIIB programme that is supported by the EU.
In a network of 17 partners and 11 observers the result could be presented to nearly 100 participants in a conclusion meeting in Berlin in the Federal Ministry for traffic, building and urbain affairs under the direction of the Logistik-Kompetenz-Zentrum (LKZ) from Prien am Chiemsee.
For Karl Fischer, General Manager of the LKZ, who had presented nearly 200 presentations to the theme Alps in the last three years, it wasn’t always simple to communicate the characteristic of the alpine bow to the different audience.
Therefore he brought the hostess of the event, the parliamentary state secretary Karin Roth, a special stone from his garden to Berlin, which was carried by the glaciers to the alpine region during the ice age.
The state secretary, who originates from a stonemason-family, surprised the audience with huge expertise about the exceptional present. She presented that the stone consisting of different big and little stones was formed under big pressure. In this composition it has much weight.
This comparison was perfect for the further run of the event, in which eight regions of the alpine elbow represented by concrete examples, how they co-ordinated their regional planning in the project AlpFRail by international co-ordination.
